History

A company built on a strong and successful foundation

MGL Group was founded by Alan and Sheila Davison in 1971. We started as a small business with one employee working on civil engineering projects for national housebuilders, the coal board, and shipyards. From humble beginnings, when a second-hand caravan was the office, bait cabin and equipment store, the business has gone from strength to strength.

Fast forward over fifty years we remain a proud family business, we are now one of the region’s most successful construction and demolition companies with a comprehensive range of business units. Through partnership agreements and places on major framework we deliver our core services; asbestos removal, demolition, earthworks, civil engineering, road surfacing, asphalt production and property development delivered by a dedicated team of over 450 passionate people.

Operating from our head office in Durham with a 12-acre mixed-use site at Newburn incorporating recycling, workshop and asphalt production facilities, plus a second asphalt site in Barton, we are still driven by our founding ethos of high-quality workmanship and developing strong partnerships.

Adapting to customer and sector needs

Continued investment in equipment, plant and our people has allowed us to continually adapt to meet the changing market and customer needs, while retaining the core morals and ethics which are the foundations of our business.
